SSA Expands Compassionate Allowance/Info on TERI Claims

Effective August 16, 2021, SSA has expanded their list of conditions that are eligible for Compassionate Allowance. These claims are also sometimes referred to or used interchangeably with the term TERI claims in SOAR. I have attached the press release, but please make note of the updated conditions that now make individuals eligible for CAL claims.
With this announcement, I wanted to take time to remind each of you that there are several ways to obtain expedited access to benefits for clients who have:
Terminal disease (TERI claims)
Severe disabling conditions (Compassionate Allowance or CAL claims)
Remember that SSA prioritizes presumptive disability and/or expedited processing for claims for individuals who have been diagnosed with a terminal condition expected to last less than 12 months or have a severe, qualifying medical condition. We do not follow the typical SOAR process when applying for benefits for these individuals.
If you have a client who has been diagnosed with terminal illness or stage IV cancer, please reach out to Georgi Fisher and your SOAR Local Lead for assistance with completing the TERI claim on their behalf.
